Epson driver problems

I have an Epson 4180 scanner connected to a USB 2.0 port running under
XP Pro. Whenever I try to use it, there is a 2-3 min. time delay
before the scanner dialog appears. This happens with all applications.
The same delay appears when the scanner returns control to the
application. Any idea as to how to diagnose the problem?

You did not say if your XP pro is plain or SP1 or SP2. (Service Pack 2)

If you are using Plain, go to Microsoft Windows Update and update XP to
SP2. ( it is a large download, around 19 MB). You can find Windows Update in
the Accessories folder of the Start Menu and in Help and Support.

Be warned some people have trouble with some installed drivers and programs
when upgrading to SP2.
If after upgrading to SP2, you have problems with your Drivers and Programs,
the general cure is to un-install then re-install those effected programs
and drivers..

SP1 fixed a lot of USB problems in XP.

To upgrade your USB controllers, remove them in Device Manager, then go to
Windows Update. If upgrading to SP2, that is not necessary.

The SP2 *I* downloaded was 267MB! Some computer magazines had copies on
their cover discs a couple of months ago, which might be more accessible
to those on dialup if you have any still lying about.
