Do the green circuit boards on the cartridges tell the printer that and
empty cartridge has occurred and that the cartridge can't be refilled and
re-used? If so, is there a chip resetter?

Yes the CB does that.

A key factor is to use a good bulk ink.


I did a Google search and it appears the same chip resetter will work with
the C-88 as well.
Maybe there are cheaper ones, but I use the model listed below and know it
works.

Yeah and we use inksupply carts in our C88's. Never had any problems at
all.
Very satisfied!
