Epson C64 Ink Consumption

Does anyone notice that the ink cartridges on this printer seem to run
low pretty quick? i do a high quality printout at least once a weak to
make sure the heads don't get clogged but the ink in all the
cartridges seem to go down fast and always seem to run out together,
my previous epson stylus color 800 never used so much ink so quickly.

Does anyone here have this printer and if so how is it with ink?

Thanks in advance.

A waste of ink, IMO. No wonder it's running out quickly.

Mine doesn't.

I have the same printer and think the same thing as you. I have started to
get the cartridges refilled at Inkjet refill store at a mall near me (I live
in Toronto,Canada). The refill price is reasonable
and half the price of the name brand. And the supposed benefit of getting
three separate colour cartridges is a laugh and I see no benefit since they
all seem to run out around the same time,
but I don't think refilling the three colour cartridges costs much more than
refilling the three in one colour cartridges. And the refilled cartridges
print well and seem the same to me as the brand name cartridges, but like
you said, even when I get them refilled, they don't seem to last long, so I
don't print too much on the Epson unless I want colour. I get a large black
cartridge refilled for my Canon 2100 as only the large black cartridge will
work in it and its fine for black text. Get your cartridges refilled or buy
compatible ones if they are out yet. I havent seen them here, though they
might be out by now.

I have been refilling my own cartridges and mostly use black.
I saw the color ink indicated low, so I poked a hole and tried to fill the
cartridges. The ink seemed to be coming out the fill hole around the needle
so I thought something was wrong.
I finely deduced that even though the monitor indicated that the ink was
almost empty they were actually full. So I reset the chip and put them back
in, no problem.

How do you reset the chip?

Judging by our sales the C62/64 is a bit of an ink hog. That is the reason I
feel that the JetTec patented 30% extra chip techniques introduced recently
have become increasingly popular. Its worth your while therefore in hunting
down a compatible you can get on with. Epsons use underprinting (the latest
gotcha) where black is printed on a colour background for more definition.
Restting without a refill can be a dangerous hobby as the ink used is a
guestimate - and drying heads will bind and become unusable.
Amongst others the JetTec is therefore worth a look... Tony
