Hi,

Hit ctrl+shift+escape to bring up task manager, then click on "new task".
Type in cmd and click ok. From the prompt, run "net start RpcSs" to start
the remote procedure call service.

Can you boot in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Command Prompt? If sou you
might be able to uninstall the update that caused the problem.
Otherwise a Repair installation (In-Place Upgrade) might be the easiest
way to fix the problem. To boot from the XP cd go in the BIOS and set
the Boot Order to boot from the cd first, exit and save changes, put the
XP cd in the drive and restart the computer.
