I am using MS Office 2003.
When I receive new e-mails in my default Inbox there is no envelope icon
displayed in the notification area even though I ticket this in the advanced
e-mail options area.

Can anyone help please?
Thanks

If this is Windows XP you might just have that icon hidden. Right-click on
the Start button in the Windows Taskbar, select Properties, Select the
Taskbar tab, select Customize and then select the icon "you have new
unopened items". Set it to "always show".

You are a star, this has been annoying me for days and I sorted it in
seconds after reading this.

I have this same problem, but when following the below instructions I don't
see "you have new unopened items" in the list to set to always show. I'm
using Outlook 2003 and have all the updates loaded for WinXP. Any ideas? I
made sure to check the option in the Outlook setup.

Thanks.

Hi,

But what if I have joined a few groups and use filters to mark the messages
recvd (frm those grps) as read. In that case, I want that outlook should not
show me an envelope when message is recvd from the groups and show otherwise.
This is outlook 2003. What do I do?

Any reply will be higly appreciated. Try to reply to <[email protected]>

With Outlook 2003 SP2, if you mark the messages as read and move them to
another folder, the envelope icon shouldn't pop up.

I installed the sp2 office but this does not solve the problem. The envelope
icon appears in the system tray inspite of the fact that I have used filters
to mark a given message as read, when I receive it from specific groups.
I have been a netscape user, but now I have to shift to outlook now (cant
help). Like other Microsoft products, this is also disgusting.

I am having the same problem as Joe below, but he does not appear to have
received a response from anyone. Can anyone help us? Many thanks.

if you don't see it in the list, choose the option to not hide unused
icons - this will show all icons and you can see if its showing at all.

I set it to always show as directed, but it still does not work for me. Any
ideas? Thanks in advance.
