entry point SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in the dynamic link
library Shlwapi.dll

The following appears on my screen after I tired downloading the SP2 pack
for XP. I followed the instructions but did not find the refered file to
delete: Windows XP Hotfix – KB834707. So a bunch of others, what should be
my course of action here.

Are you following these directions?

You receive an "Explorer.EXE - Entry Point Not Found - The procedure entry
point SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in the dynamic link library
Shlwapi.dll" error message after you install the MS04-038 security update
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=888162

These should be a hidden folder called "$NtUninstallKB834707$ located in the
"c:\windows" folder if this update was applied to your computer. If you do
not have this folder then you cannot uninstall this hotfix. If you do have
this folder then navigate to:

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB834707$\spuninst

and double-click "spuninst.exe" to start the uninstall process.

I have to boot under safe mode, which allows me to get in to the task manager
and bring up the uninstall program. When I scroll down I do not see the
KB834707 to remove. Right now when I boot up the only I see on my screen in
the wall paper, no icons or start menu. I was updating to SP2 when this all
happend, and was doing all this before I went to bed. When I woke in the
morning the system rebooted and here is where I am.

What happens when you are in the Task Manager and select "New Task (Run)"
from the File Menu. Then type in:

%windir%\$NtUninstallKB834707$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

Also, in the Add/Remove Programs, is the box for "Show Updates" checked near
the top of the Window so you can see Windows Updates?
