I have both Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox installed on my computer.

I have having a problem all of the sudden. The problem is that when I open
Internet Explorer and enter a link into the address bar such as
www.micosoft.com, Firefox automatically starts up and opens the link.

I have run a comprehensive anti-virus and spyware scan in case some program
has hijacked my computer and Internet Explorer/Firefox but receive you
findings.

Anyone else ever have this problem? Better yet, any solutions out there?

Hi,
Assuming Windows XP...
Control panel> Add/remove programs> Set Program Access and Defaults, choose
Microsoft Windows or Custom. Make sure IE is selected as the default
browser.

Plan B...
Do you have this registry key?
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c90250f3-4d7d-4991-9b69-a5c5bc1c2ae6}
Reference: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/12/16/504864.aspx
You should not have this key with IE6. An update for IE6 may have created
it. Installing or updating Firefox may have created it.
Installing/uninstalling IE7 Beta may have left the key behind.

If you find that key in your registry, Export it (just in case) Delete it.
Restart.

If you're not familiar with regedit, please post back or seek help.

Hope this helps,

Thank you. The first item did not work. But, the second suggestion of
removing the bad key worked and not the problem is solved.
