"Enter Network Password" boxs keeps popping up!

This problem started after updating my virus software. I am not on a
network; I have a stand-alone, single-user PC. My e-mail worked fine
yesterday; now it won't work at all and that stupid "Enter Network Password"
box keeps popping up and it's driving me nuts. How can I make it stop? The
following article was supposed to help but it must be out of date.

I have Microsoft Windows XP Profession OS.

You can probably make it stop by disabling ALL email scanning by your virus
software. Email scanning is unnecessary, redundant, and is almost ALWAYS at
fault when one has email problems. If you're running Norton or McAfee,
disabling the scanning module is usually NOT enough, these two applications
must be uninstalled and re-installed WITHOUT the email scanning service.
