This is nuts. I have had this problem for months, on all my computers. I do
not use hotmail. I do not use yahoo mail. I have not installed SP3 on my
XPpro systems. The only solution I have found is to stop using Outlook, and
use Thunderbird instead.
I just purchased Office 2007 because I figured my old Office 2003 was the
problem, but it is not. I also have tried all the "solutions" in Microsoft's
memo, and nothing works.
So I guess I am back to Thunderbird, which I do NOT like.
I have four POP3 mailboxes, and it just too much trouble to type my password
four times every time Outlook fetches my mail.

Jon,

I have not fixed it yet but our IT tech in work said try this. We tried it
here at work and it works, but I have not had time to do this on my home
computer.

Let me know how you make out. It's weird that you did not download SP #3
and you are having this problem. All the people I know have this problem as
soon as they downloaded and installed SP 3 including here at work. Thanks,
Kris

Hi Kris:
I went to that site earlier today. It is basically a reworking of
Microsoft's instructions, but written in English instead of Microsoftese!
Tried it, no luck.
It's hard to believe that Microsoft hasn't cured this yet. I see by
variious posts that there are a lot of us frustrated over it.
Maybe it's because I am Canadian LOL. Maybe it's because my ISP is
sympatico.ca. Maybe it's the Dell computer. Maybe it's the weather. Who
knows?
I'll be interested in knowing if you can clear up your system at home. By
the way, I am using XPProfessional version5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600,
up to date.

Hi Jon,

Sorry that did not work for you. I will let you know if I fix mine at home
and you do the same. And it is definitely not because you are Canadian. I
am a huge hockey fan. It is Microsoft. I cannot believe that they have not
had any hotfixes to fix this problem. I never had this problem before. I
have a dell, it is 2 years old and I have XP Professional too. Not sure what
version since I am at work right now and cannot check. Let me know how you
make out. Happy New Year!

Thanks. Indeed I will let you know. I just bought Office 2007, so I find I
have 90 days free support. Have tried them by email, and keep getting kicked
off their servers, "no such page". Will keep trying, might have to phone
them. I think I'll wait until next week/next year. As my teen daughter
says, TTYL.

Jon,

I just migrated from OE to Outlook 2003, and had the same problem. I had
imported the pop3 accounts from OE (I also had 4) and no matter what I did
the password would not save. What ultimately worked for me was going to
Tools > email accounts > view or change...> and then removing all the
accounts. Then I added each account back one at a time. This time the
password stuck. If you are sure of your server names, passwords etc. try
removing just one account...maybe your default, and see if it fixes it
before you remove them all. Good luck.
