Enlarging fonts on links when clicking them - looks ugly

I've tried to ask this question earlier here:
http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

Basically, I've now seen the same effect on a somebody's else
computer with WinXP Home, and I think this is probably related to some
of the IE6 dll's rather than any specific config. So, any ideas?

Here is the earlier message:

Few weeks ago I started to have this special effect in Internet
Explorer 6SP1 under WindowsXP SP1. I can't track it back in time with
respect to what was changed on this computer.

Anyway, what happens is that when I click on a link, the font of the
link becomes larger, and so the whole thing looks pretty ugly. Since I
am on dialup, I can see that for a few seconds before the page is
replaced by the linked page. Also, sometimes when I am waiting for the
page to switch to the link, and move the mouse over other things,
those fonts also become enlarged.

Even something as simple as the following page
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&group=microsoft.public.internetexplorer
has these problems, i.e. clicking on the names of the groups at the
top of the page makes the font bigger before it goes to the actual
link.

Thanks!

Has a parasite installed a .css file on your computer to do just that?

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

Well, SpyBot did not find anything ... I did not find any suspicious
*.css files on my harddrive either.

Also, there were several other similar reports on this newsgroup, but
with no solution:

I guess, this is something that will remain a mystery forever ...

any ideas?

Stop using your mouse?

Try doubleclicking near a link, then tab to the link and press Enter.

A previous explanation for this symptom was that the user was getting an effect
from a wheeled mouse which is normally achieved (apparently) by moving
the wheel while holding down a Ctrl- key. The user then complain that
s/he wasn't touching the keyboard but that doesn't disccount the possibility
that the keyboard might be malfunctioning and giving a spurious interrupt
which looks like a Ctrl- key is being pressed.

This is an interesting suggestion. I do have a mouse with a wheel,
and I also use mouse strokes in MyIE2 which open a link in a different
window. What happened was that both in MyIE2 and IE 6.0 I had the
problems with the fonts in the links. And I did click carefully
without moving the mouse when I saw larger fonts, I do not think it
was related to the wheel signal from the mouse.

However, now even a weirder thing has happened - the problem went
away! Yesterday for a certain page I had to make the font larger than
the default, and then I went back to the default. Somehow things
started working again, and the links can be now clicked without any
font effects.

I guess this is just some kind of intermittent problem - it appears
and goes away by itself.
