Endless traffic

Hi.I have a problem with my internet connection in my laptop computer. I
haven`t install SP1 and SP2.
I get the connection when I try with my USB ADSL WAN modem`s dial-up
connection, but the problem is that as soon as the connection is established
the icon(two computer monitors) in the system tray(in the notification area)
flashes(blows) it`s both monitors in blue and never deflates(blows out). When
I double click on the icon I see that there is a great amount of data being
received and sent. In a couple of hours, even if I don`t use the browser that
is even if I do not visit any web sites data received becomes nearly
25,000,000 bytes and data sent becomes nearly 12,000,000 bytes. I want to
indicate that Automatic update is disabled in my laptop computer and I tried
to make all updates manually, interactively. As a result, even if there is no
ongoing updates apparent to me and even if I do not use the browser( of
course this includes that I do not make any downloads or FTPs) the icon is
blowing permanently that is there is a data traffic, which I could not
identify, until I disconnect.

Thanks in advance...

Please do a full scan with a current version (not earlier than 2003)
antivirus using updated definitions in Safe Mode. Since your operating
system is not patched at all (and you should do this!), what firewall
is in place? Post back with the results of the av scan and the answer
to the firewall question.
