Ending Acrobat reader causes IE 6 to fail

When I click on a link on a web site that causes the
Adobe reader to open, I can view it fine. But then when
I close the reader, IE 6 fails. I get the message "The
instruction at 0x06965089 referenced memory at
0x00000034. The memory could not be read." IE then
closes after clicking on OK. I installed the latest
Adobe reader 6, and I have the latest Windows XP
updates. I also uninstalled the Acrobat reader versions
4 and 5 from my computer, but that didn't help. Any
ideas how to fix this? It is very irritating.
