End Program won't work

I have XP Home and Office 2000. I use Outlook for my email. When I
close Outlook, it looks like it's closed down, but it's really still
running. I do Control+Alt+Delete to bring up Task Manager, and there
it is -- a running process. Sometimes two or three separate running
processes!

What do I do to really shut it down, so that it isn't still running
invisibly in the background?

I am just wondering if your computer is infected by virus.
you'd better upgrade your anti virus library and scan your computer for any
virus now.

Been there, done that. AVG and Spybot S&D both updated and run.
Plan B?
