End Notes Problemo

The working view in my word document contains footnotes that are in an
expanded view. The view contains lots of <<>> with plenty of unnecessary
linked information.

In the print view, the footnote looks normal. It has the authors last name,
title of book and page reference.

How can I make my working view look like my print view? Originally, the
working view did look like my print view - but something happened.

I need help. Thank you so very much.

Suzanne - You hit the nail on the head. It worked - Thank you and bless you -

Most often when people claim they are seeing "gibberish" or "codes" or even
"HTML," what they're seeing is field codes. Seeing field codes in
footnotes/endnotes is a new wrinkle in Word 2007 resulting from the new
citation feature (unless you're using EndNote with an earlier version;
presumably it creates something similar). The view of field codes is toggled
with Alt+F9.

Well, not entirely new; think of the NOTEREF field.

I guess what I meant was that seeing notes represented by field codes (which
I take to be the case here), not notes containing field codes.
