Encryption solutions for mobile sales force?

What would be the best encryption solution for a mobile sales force, all of
which own their own personal laptops and many of which are WinXP Home Edition
(not just XP Pro), and that would allow the remote users to encrypt and
password protect sensitive information (eg files, folders, etc...)? Ideally
this solution should be easy to use, reliable and respected in the industry,
and relatively inexpensive. TIA ...

Encryption can be dangerous if not managed centrally--it's awfully easy to
lose keys or forget passwords, and therefore access to files.

You might check out IronKey, at http://www.ironkey.com. It looks pretty easy
to use, has a key/password backup mechanism, and will probably work better
for a bunch of independent-minded users. A colleague of mine here at
Microsoft did a review and came away impressed. I'm gonna get one of them
myself soon.

Whole-disk encryption.
Partition encryption.
File/folder encryption.

What level do you want?

Some solutions to investigate:
EFS (free)
BestCrypt
TruCrypt (free)
DriveCrypt
PGP whole-disk encryption

Probably just file/folder encryption, but I will double-check on that though.

All good suggestions, thanks guys!
