Password protecting/encrypting individual folders...

R

RayMan!

Hello all. I need your assistance and sound advice on the following
please, I've searched far and wide for a program that does the
following with no avail.

I'm looking for a program that has the ability to password protect
and/or encrypt folders directly without going into its own interface
(i.e. right click on folder, choose encrypt or password protect)
I have tested many apps that would hide folders, then you'll have to
open that program to see those folders.. a feature I don't really care
for.

From previous posts that I saw, people have recommended zipping,
RARing, or using built in XP security and encryption... I am a network
administrator and have utilities to break those passwords, and a
floppy to boot into XP and change the administrator password, then
unencrypt stuff.. I'm concerned about the physical security of my
computer, and would like the data on it to be protected, as well as
having anyone sitting at that computer while I'm logged on to require
a password to get into my personal files.
Help?

Thanks..

Ray!

this was the second hit on a google search for "file encryption" &
software:

http://axcrypt.sourceforge.net/

open-source (read free), the first line in the 'how-to-use' link is:
'AxCrypt does not work by starting a separate program, instead it is
fully integrated into the Windows Explorer - the part of Windows where
you browse your folders and files.'

sounds like a possible winner to me....

there's also a whole load of encryption software here:
