Encrypted Folders/Files option not selectable in Advanced Attribut

I would like to create an encrypted folder on my Desktop under My Documents
but unable to do so. If I go to Properties/General/Advanced Attributes for My
Documents or any subfolder, the "Encrypt Contents to Secure Data" option is
"greyed out" and not selectable.

Network Sharing for My Documents with both "Share this folder..." and "Allow
network..." boxes checked but I don't see how this would affect encryption.
My Laptop (Windows XP Media Ed SP2) has same settings but "Encrypt..." option
is available/selectable.

The "Compress Contents..." option is not checked either as I know that would
prevent encryption.

The interesting thing is that my second desktop also has the same encryption
problem..."greyed out" option. Both desktops are hardwired to router and
both laptops are wireless if that has any bearing at all.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

You can't do encryption with XP Home Edition, you need the Professional
version to do this.

File encryption is not available on Windows XP Home Edition.

There are a number of security features found in XP
Professional or Media Center Edition that are not included in
XP Home Edition.

It's possible to restrict network access to sub folders in XP
Home, but not something I'd recommend. If you don't want other
people to see a folder over the network, don't put it in your
My Documents folder. Another option is to put all files and
folders you wish to share over then network in the Shared
Documents folder. You can then make your My Documents folder
private.

Good luck
