Encrypted files no longer accessible

I used the XP file ecription feature to encrypt some files/folders. (right
click/sharing and security/gerneral/advanced/encrypt contents to secure data)
Recently i reinstalled on a new hard drive (2 Raptors, RAID 0). After the
reinstall i can no longer open these files - i get a permission error. Any of
the files that appear green due to the encryption are no longer acessible.
I've been trying to find info on fixing this but i'm at a dead end - couldnt
find anything in help file, knowledge base or larger google search.

Any ideas would be appreciated...

If you didn't backup the recovery keys before the reinstall, those files are
inaccessible. You would need to import the backed up keys into the new
install.

if you boot an XP machine with a Win2000 CD you get unrestricted access to
all files regardless of encription (in WIn2000 recovery console mode) Was
hoping there was a more direct route...

If they are encrypted, and you don't have the original keys, they are still
encrypted. You might have physical access to them but you cannot read
them.

The only direct route is to import the original keys. The indirect route
is to restore from unencrypted backups or printed documents.

Microsoft made it very easy to invoke encryption, but neglected to make it
abundantly clear how to protect the keys.
