I can't help much, but I do know that once you get that message that it's
encountered a problem and must close, it *will* close no matter what you hit.
I don't know that there is a way to prevent it from closing. It usually
means something unworkable has happened. I don't get these messages too
often (maybe two to three times a week) so I just re-do what I was doing and
move on... if there is another solution, I'd love to hear about it.

Click on the *Details* and see what error message is displayed. These can
sometimes offer a clue as to the fault. To decipher those (when possible.
<g>) you'd need to post the error message contents up to, but *Not
Including* the Registers. Someone here, *might* be able to tell you
something.

As far as sending a report...MS will not get back to you personally. They
check the report and put in into the "brain trust think-tank" to (ahem)
"fix" things. That must be the largest useless report in the entire world. I
don't bother with it. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Yawn.

That's like not voting then. In fact using the Error Reporting Tool
is even better than voting because you are given the opportunity
to "vote" each time you get an error. The point is that the reports
can allow MS to build a statistical view of problem areas and then
know how to prioritize their fixes. If we don't report our problems
they may have less reliable information about how significant the ones
that they do get reports on are.

LOL! You are *so* right! It *is* like voting.... nothing really gets done
once whoever is in charge gets...in charge. Let me correct that... They fix
what isn't broken ("progress" you know) and never fix that which is. "...and
I promise to lower taxes, give you more services, no collateral required,
you won't need to stand in line, no triplicate filing will be necessary,
your security will be guaranteed, AND, above all... I promise to prevent
*rust*!"

You can vote (in govt. or with MS) all you want, that guarantees nothing.
There are "administrative actions" which overrule the will of many every
day. OTOH, there are also ploys used where it is asserted that the majority
rule means it is "right". There have been countless instances throughout
history up to and including the present day, where the majority has been
(now shamefully admitting it) wrong. Wonderful thing hindsight is.<G>

If they haven't enough reports from the *millions* of hapless users who post
here (and don't post here, or anywhere at all) about this endless and
recurrent issue, they'll never have enough info to fix it. How many possible
permutations can there really be after all of the users have clicked that
blasted "send report" button? There must be have been *some* narrowing of
the field by now. Maybe an actual focus upon the reports already submitted,
and actually doing something about it would be in order at this point. Do
you really believe that there is still the "One Missing Report" which is
going to be the keystone in solving this? Perhaps "they" are waiting for
reports from not yet existent software apps to round out the gamut of all
variables, and will then exclaim... "Eureka! Got it!"

My guess is, "Longhorn" will be a pile of bones in a Texas desert for 10
years before that day ever appears. :-D

BTW, I have clicked that "send report" a few dozen, maybe four score times
in my PC history. The "error message" will still make a cameo appearance
every so often, when it "feels like it". And, an untimely one at that; but,
not unlike a flat tire....when is it really *ever* timely? :-\\

OK... rant -<click>- "OFF" :))

I was having the same problem that you described. It just began out of the
blue. I went to microsoft knowledge base and after a lot of searching around
I found a solution that didn't seem to be exactly right (they said that this
was happening because I was originally using a beta version of Xp or IE,
which is not the case) however I decided to try it anyway. Their explanation
was a little vague, but this is what I did: In Internet Explorer go to the
tools menu, click on internet options, click on the advanced tab, go down the
list and clear the box on every option that starts with the word enable. Then
restart Internet Explorer. This cleared up my problem. If it doesn't work
for you, you can go back and there is a box to reset the defaults.
