enabling japanese

I got a machine with XP preloaded on it. My daughter has
begun corresponding with someone in Japan and needs
support for Japanese in Outlook Express. Everything I've
read says we should be able to install the necessary
support (Control panel -> Region and language options ->
Languages -> Install files for East Asian languages).
However, when I follow this procedure, the process that
is launched can't find all the files it needs. The error
messages instruct me to put the XP CD in the machine, but
I don't have one, as it was preloaded. The PC
manufacturer ended up telling me that the machine doesn't
have the full language support. I don't know if this is
really true or not, but I haven't been able to find the
files in any hidden directories, or anywhere else for
sale or download. Any ideas on how I can enable this
support?

I did call the manufacturer; they ended up telling me
that the support I wanted wasn't shipped with the XP that
was loaded on my machine. But I'm not sure I believe
them. Thanks for the links. I don't think they give me
what I want. One provides for multi-lingual XP--the whole
operating system interface. I don't want that--just the
ability to display Japanese with Outlook Express.

the IME down load should do it, i used it with win98
before language packs came with NT & XP - it will allow
you to read (& write) in Japanese... even if you don't
write in Japanese, being able to read it is worth the
install

i wonder if you know some one with an XP CD.
don't know if it will let you load the language pack but
it's worth a try... do't know if you're suppoed to do
that either, but...
