enabling dhcp

Hi

this may be really simple...

I'm trying to set up a Linksys router for vonage voip, with a netgear wired
modem.

It plugs & plays from my laptop/tablet.

No joy from my desktop: dhcp is not enabled.
The desktop has an smc ez 100 card - which passes winxp's tests as being ok.
But shows dhcp=false

So I need to manually enable dhcp (?)
How do I do that?

Will,

in the LAN connection properties, TCP/IP properties, set it to
obtain the IP address and also the DNS server addresses
automatically.
