Enable Failed!

XP SP3 with a DSL modem to the wall. Have created
a desktop icon for my Local Area Connection.
Double-click to enable, double-click to disable.
Simple, eh?

But every so often, I double-click the icon and get
a nastygram: Enable Failed!

Only option is to reboot and all is well again.
For a while.

Suggestions???

Open Device Manager, open the properties on your ethernet card, click
the Power tab, and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power".

You can do the same thing with a USB device by disabling the power
saving feature of all "USB Root Hub" entries.

Nope. Already done that. And, as I said: It only happens
sometimes, not each time it hibernates. Need a better
solution.
