Hello everybody

I have a problem, I have 2 hard drives, and I deleted some files from
my second hard drive. I have Win XP SP2 installed on the first drive,
the second is only for backup of files and documents.

I deleted some files from drive #2 and the AV (Kaspersky Personal Pro
5.0) found a virus in folder
F:\Recylers\...
which I know is the storage for files on the Recycle Bin, the problem
is that I emptied the Recycle bin and the AV still finds the files
there.

Any ideas??

KAV disallows access to infected files. Temporarily disable KAV (right click
taskbar icon, select disable monitoring on my version) and try to empty the
recycle bin again. Let us know if it worked.

I tried what Galen told me, and after emptying the recycle bin (it
looked empty) did a scan of the hard disk and still found the viruses.

Another question, in my previous install of Win XP in this computer, I
had Norton AV as my default anti virus. When I did a fresh install I
decided to switch to Kaspersky. If I go to start menu, run and type
f:\recycler it opens a folder which has inside one called NPROTECT.
Inside of that one are some files that have numbers as their names. I
opened the same folder but for drive C:, the folder c:\recycler, and it
did not have a Nprotect folder. Could this be a left over from the
installation on norton AV in the previous install of Win XP(Note that
hard drive F: was not changed during install, just used to keep files?

using KAV options, tell it to empty the virus vault.

One more thing, the virus is not found in the NPROTECT folder, is found
in the
F:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-823518204-1383384898-839522115-1003\
Oddly, the only folder that appears on the run f:\recycler is the
Nprotect folder.
Is it safe to delete the Nprotect folder, or the recycler folder (using

rd \\?\f:\recycler\nprotect /s )??

I recently had a virus find a nice home in my laptop after letting my sister
borrow it for the weekend for one of her college functions. It came back
with a file called money.exe located in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
and it was the most unique virus I'd ever seen. More accurately it was the
most unique virus that I'd never seen, as no amount of changing the settings
to show hidden files or protected operating system files would make the
virus show itself. Yet no amount of scanning and deleting would delete the
file.

I eventually disabled KAV for a short time and dropped into command prompt.
I changed directory (in this case it was CD C:\Windows\Downloaded Program
Files\ to change) to that directory and just said it was worth the risk and
entered in del money.exe... The computer happily paused a moment and
returned to the prompt. I enabled KAV, deleted the prefetch, made a new
restore point, removed the older ones, and haven't had a complaint since.

That might be something similar to what you're seeing and might help? I'd
wager that it can't hurt to try at any rate.

I tried to access it but I can find it, so the question now is,
how safe is to delete de Recycler folder on a drive?

Anybody done it?

I hope that I'm right in this... Try this perhaps but check to see if anyone
writes in saying that you shouldn't do this first:

Start > run > type "cmd" > hit enter
Type "cd f:\" > hit enter
Type "del recyclers" (if that's the name of the folder)

In all cases remove the quotes...
It SHOULD recreate itself...
You MIGHT have to do it in safe mode? I don't know for certain.
Disable KAV (right click tray icon > disable monitoring) for this if it's
not in safe mode...

I'm thinking/hoping that it will a) let you delete it and b) recreate it on
next boot/use

Are you sure that the folder's name isn't "Recycled" instead? I don't have
any applications that make a folder called "recyclers" on my computer nor do
I know of any that do. Not saying that none do, just that I don't know of
any that do and that could be because I haven't tried all the applications
available on the 'net yet. Lord knows I've tried a number of them though :)

If that's the case then you can make sure you delete it with the correct
file name. Check for spelling errors and make sure that the folder's name is
really recyclers.

If it's the Recycled folder than you can just right click on the desktop
recycle bin icon and select properties, disable the bin on drive F, and it
should delete itself. If it doesn't then you should be able to delete it
with any regular method or the above method. Make sure that you've disabled
KAV to delete it or KAV, by it's nature, will not let you delete the file
because it won't allow you (or any other program) to access it.
