Empty Program Folders in Start Menu (including bundled Microsoft apps)

As you can see by my subject line I have a problem I need
to fix. Recently something happened (what, I don't
know!). All my Start Menu Program Folders were emptied
(including Windows apps - accessories, games, etc.), my
Office Shortcut bar disappeared, and all my Internet
favorites disappeared.

Can anyone tell me what happened and how I can fix this
mess?
 
Sounds like the profile they existed under is not the profile you are using to log in as.
