(empty) folders and programs file

All of my folder and file shortcuts on my desktop seem to be empty. I
hav eaccess to them for a short perios of time (like a minute or less)
and then everything seems to be empty. If i can get something open
then that's the only then and I can't save anything else that I've
done. I need help. My computer is only a few monthes old and I hate
to think what's wrong with it. My thesis is on this computer and I
can't even save or back anything up! HELP!!!
 
Have you rebooted the computer to see if a reboot fixes it? Have you run
an Anti-Virus Scan? Hae you contacted the Computer Manufacturer while the
computer is under Warranty?
