Empty folder on desktop

I suddenly have an empty file folder on my desktop. It doesn't even have a
name. Just the folder icon. When I try to delete it, a message pops up to
say "Cannot delte file: Cannot read from source file or disk".

Any ideas on how to get rid of this folder and what could have possibly made
it appear in the first place?

Thanks, Ed Hayden

Perhaps it might be some spyware that was unknowingly downloaded. Have you
done a spyware scan since the folder appeared? If you need some anti-spyware
programs, here's a couple of links to some very reliable programs. Be sure
once you install them that you retrieve any updates from the vendor prior to
running your first scan.

Or, you may just do a system restore to a point prior to when it first
appeared. Here are the links to some great anti-spyware programs. I use all 3.

1)Ad-Aware from Lavasoftusa.com (the download links are along the right edge):

2)Defender from Microsoft:

3)Spybot Search and Destroy from Safer Networking.
If you use this one, be sure to go into the "exclusions" after the install.
Scroll completely through the listt and delete the 5 or 10 exceptions that
are checkmarked. This is a great program, but for some reason, this
anti-spyware program actually allowed a few to remain unless you delete
them...)

Good luck,
