empty box in taskbar

on startup... one of the last things to happen on startup
is a blank application box appears in task bar. i can't
open/close/restore or anything.

Sounds like you got alittle bit of the spyware bug.Go to
download.com,search for spybot,download it,do a search for
updates and before you download the updates,change the
download site to the u.s. then run it,immunize.That will
take care of that.

Yeah it looks that way to me too. When yu hold the mouse over this "blank application box" what does the popup tooltip say?
