I have windows xp. how do i create an emergency boot disk.

Also how do I backup my hard drive through a zip drive

If you have a retail full or upgrade CD you don't need one - the CD is
bootable.

how do you drop to a system prompt from the Boot CD ?

Recovery Console / Repair option during CD boot.

Although it is not a full system prompt but a special environment.

I just saw an article on this. You can create a boot
disk, but you need to download from Microsoft website.
I am not sure though if this boot disk will immediately
prompt you to insert a installable CD or it will end in
c:\ prompt since I have not downloaded one yet.

you can also use a win9X boot floppy which has cdrom, smardrive support and
with the utility NTFStoDos Pro on it.
