Embedded WMV not loading

Hello,

I'm running Win XP Pro with SP2 and IE 6.0.2900.2180.

I if I load a page with a WMV file in it, the page loads without the file or
player, and IE declares the loading "done". I do not have the problem with
quick time files or any other media. WMP10 works fine, as do pages that open
the player seperately or link to page that only contains the file. I've
scoured MS support and add-in and content settings with no luck.

It's possible that the problem has only occured since the installation of
SP2, but I can't be sure as I rarely play media over the internet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Yours, Scott.

Here's an example of a page with video embedded that will not load, I just
see a video-sized gap in the page..

(apologies if the video is at all offensive, based on the description it
should be a harmless home video)

Did you press the play button? Some play automatically and some don't. When I
went there I had to press the "play" button.

the player itself will not open at all, so i have no play button to press..

instead I just get a gap the size of the player (i've loaded the page on
other PC's) with just the background colour of the page. It happens on every
site i visit with a windows media file, not just the example..

hope that helps,

scott

FWIW it took quite a while to load and at first I thought I was seeing
what you are trying to describe. However, here are some additional
symptoms which kept me hopeful that eventually something more
would happen:
- hovering my mouse over the controls showed that
the embedded player's Stop button was active.
- netstat -asop tcp 5 (e.g. in a cmd window)
clearly showed that some packets were being received slowly.
Unfortunately I don't know of a way to show which connection
was receiving them but just guessed that it would be for the
one I was waiting on.

BTW the file is cacheable so once it is downloaded and played
it is retrieved from the TIF almost instantly. Do you still have the
same symptoms if you have downloaded and played it using the
Media Player itself? If so, the cause may be corruption in your TIF.
Try clearing it and then retest.
