Embedded powerpoint file only shows first slide

I am using Microsoft Word 2002 SP3 and Powerpoint 2003 and created a Word
document with a .pps object embedded in it. When I double-clicked on
the icon (first time) I saw the Slideshow OK.
I was playing around to tried and open it as slides and have
done something so that now all I can see is the first slide.

I right-clicked on the icon and, under option,
clicked on 'convert...' and then 'Microsoft Powerpoint Slide'. Now when
I double-click (or right click, Slide object..., open/edit) I just see
the first slide.

Also, if I take any other presentations and insert it them as object in a
Word document, the same thing happens (though if I open something
directly with Powerpoint it works fine).

Any ideas on how I can fix my system back to the way it was?
before I tried the 'convert option...

I've tried the 'convert...' option and, although the icon in the Word doc
*says* presentation
object, it still just gives me the first slide when I open it.

If the original Thread had provided me with answers I would not have started
a new one. I suggest you read the DETAIL explanation on this thread since
it's more clear than the original one.

Is there ANYONE that may have the answer to this problem.

The reason we ask that you remain in the same thread is so that we know what
has been suggested without having to dig around and find out what has gone
before. Those of us who regularly answer questions see all the messages.

Select the powerpoint file in Windows Explorer. Right click and select 'open
with' Choose Powerpoint. Check the box - always open with this application.
OK out of the box.

The presentation should now open in Powerpoint when you click the icon.

Graham,

I appreciate your respond regarding my problem. However, please read my
explanation of the problem completely. I insert a PPT file in Word as an
object and I display as an Icon. When I double click to launch the file PPT
opens the file in "Normal View" as opposed to Slide Show view. When I
right-click the icon instead of seeing the option for "Presentation object" I
get a "Slide Object" I have had several co-workers of mine insert several
presentations in Word as objects and when they launch them they go straight
into Slide Show mode, but mine launches in Normal view and it only displays
slide one.

As I mentioned in my thread I had initially right-click on the PPT Icon,
choose Slide Object, Convert, Slide Presentation and ever since I cannot get
my PPT objects to launch the same way.

Is there a registry fix I can look at?

PS: I tried your suggestion but that does not work because my PPT files
already open in PPT.

I *have* read your problem. Did you actually try what I suggested!

In reproducing the steps you took to screw things up, I screwed my own
installation up too - so thanks for that ;) - Yesterday, before posting the
reply, I fixed it by the method suggested, but today it is screwed again :(

However, by rolling back Windows to the Tuesday's system check (before I
made the changes) it all works again. Is roll back an option? If not, I
cannot suggest anything further.

I am sure Microsoft willbe happy to take your money if you telephone their
system support - the number for which will depend on the country you live
in. Checkout

<interoperability at its best>

I wish MSFT would concentrate on how their own products work together
more, too!

Graham,

I'm sorry about your system, I screw mine up as well recreating the problem
for someone as well. :>) A System restore is not an option for me since i'm
using a company machine, and I really hate to get it re-image. I wish I new
which registry key was changed when I made that change to the object.

Thanks for ALL your help.
