Embedded graph colour scheme

Can I set a default colour scheme in my embedded charts in powerpoint. Right now I can change the colours in one embedded graph but it doesn't carry over with the user-defined chart types. Is it inextricably linked to the PowerPoint colour scheme?

When I've altered a color in charting then saved the chart as user-defined,
the altered color does not carry over to new charts when I assign the
user-defined chart I created. Even on the same machine.

I've done contract work for several companies that have a customized color
scheme for their charts and the color scheme travels with the template—not
dependent on an individual machine.

Is there any way to find out how the heck they did this?

Those would be based on the actual template (or slide) color scheme. Check
