Embedded Excel charts revert to default settings when edited

We have a program that embeds Excel charts inside multiple PowerPoint slides.
When the program is finished, it leaves the PowerPoint presentation open.
While open, we can browse and edit the charts without issue.

If we save the presentation and reopen it, we still see the chart content
created by our app. However, if we edit the chart, upon opening, it reverts
back to the default settings (data, layout and look) and our data is lost.

This happens in both Office 2003 and 2007.

We appreciate any insights!

Your program probably isn't calling the chart's .Update method before quitting.
That's probably all you need to do in order to solve the poblem.
