Emails with attachments aren't being recieved by recipients

Hi, Can someone please help me. Whenever I send out an email with a picture
or any kind of attachment including word documents through Windows mail, it
says the email was sent, but it isn't being recieved by the recipient. Then I
get a Norton symantec pop up saying this problem does not occur often, their
support team have not been able to reproduce the error, and it also says that
the error message is actually caused by a problem on the cpu itself. When I
clicked the "run it now" button to run a Symantec administrative tool it
states that I must be logged into an administrative account to complete this
action, but I am! The only info it gave was this: Module 1003, Error ID 9,
Build Symantec. I have Norton Antivirus 2007 and I ran a full scan and I
don't have a virus. I'm about to throw this cpu out the friggin' window! Is
there anyone out there who knows why it's doing this? My last resort is to
bring it in to the geek squad to see if they can fix it.

What you need to do is throw Norton Antivirus 2007 out the friggin' window!
At the very lease, you need to fully uninstall it, then re-install it
WITHOUT any email scanning components whatsoever. Rule number one, ALL
email scanners are incompatible with Windows Mail and every other email
client know to modern man. It is in the nature of the way they must work
that there WILL be problems sooner or later; it's not an "if", but a "when".
In this case, you'll need to get the Norton removal tool because the
uninstaller (like most everything else Symantec makes) is broken and doesn't
completely remove the product. Once removed, re-install without any email
scanning.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

3. Turn off email scanning in your antivirus software.

Stop error message when you send or receive e-mail messages on a Windows
Vista-based computer that has e-mail scanning software installed: "STOP:
0x1000008E KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M"

I uninstalled norton antivirus the normal way before reading your post and it
seem to be gone. After reading your post I tried to download the norton
uninstall program and couldn't because the program seems to be gone, or in
hiding. Anyway, now I can't send or recieve normal emails. This is the error
message that pops up:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Fw: ', Account: 'promail.ptd.net', Server:
'promail.ptd.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F

So now I'm not protected by viruses and I can't send or recieve email at
all. Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Was the link to the cleanup program split between two lines when
you received it?

You should run it after a normal uninstall, rather than trying to make it do
the entire uninstall.

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet
provider's equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so,
such connections to port 25 are often blocked to cause trouble for
spammers, and you need to ask ptd.net if their outgoing email server
allows you to send it outgoing mail through any other port, and if so,
where to find their instructions for switching to the other port. Just
trying all the ports is a very slow way to find out, since there are
about 65,000 ports available and it's unlikely that more than a few
of then will accept outgoing mail.

See if this helps:

I called Penteledata and port 25 is the only outgoing port they use.
Everything with them seems to be okay. My settings are fine and there's
currently no network problems as far as they're concerned. I also have a
gmail account and I can send and recieve emails w/attachments no problem.
But today I recently went on the internet and I couldn't access this one
page, so I clicked the diagnose box and got this message:

A required network component is not working properly on this computer.
An installed Layered Service Provider (LSP) is malfunctioning.

So I then hit the box to repair it and now it's telling me it can't remove
the malfunctioning network component.

Could this be what's screwing with my windows email account?
Otherwise I'm clueless.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks again.

I finally found what was wrong. Here it was a setting on my webroot spy
sweeper program. Once I changed the setting everything else fixed itself.

Yes, any third party security program that messes with emails can
cause severe problems in Windows Mail.

Per Gary's post about email scanners, I must add that Norton, if set to scan
your email for viruses, WILL cause problems one day. You should eliminate
all email scanning from all applications, Webroot, Norton, and anything else
that wants to sit between you and the email server.
