Emails blocked on computer but not server

Reasonably often when I open Outlook, a new email briefly appears then
disappears. It will be nowhere to be found on Outlook on my computer, but if
I open my server's webmail page, it will always be there. In other words, the
email is received by my server and sent to my Outlook account, which promptly
banishes it, but the email remains in my webmail inbox. There are no Outlook
rules in operation which would explain this. Any ideas please?

Well, if it's not a rule then it could be:

- The view you have on the folder. Check if you have a view that
shows all messages.

- Anti-malware software that runs as a plug-in. To test, start
Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe") which does NOT load any
plug-ins.

Thanks for that, but the view is simply the default "Messages" and I have not
installed any plug-ins. If I load Outlook in safe mode, will that tell me if
there are any plug-ins?

Outlook's safe mode does NOT load any plug-ins. If the problem goes
away in safe mode then the problem is with a plug-in.

Have you yet tried disabling Outlook's junk filter? Checked your
Blocked Sender list yet?

OK, I'll try safe mode.

Yes, I checked Blocked Senders, but no issue there. Bear in mind that the
vanishing emails are usually from regular correspondents whose emails have
arrived just fine for months/years, then one day Outlook decides to banish
them for no apparent reason. Therefore I doubt that the junk filter has
anything to do with it.

The junk filter is nothing more than just another version of a
Bayesian filter. Lots of anti-spam products include Bayesian
filtering. However, once per month, one of the updates from Microsoft
is an updated database for their filter. Rather than you updating
your Bayesian database per your particular history of received spam &
ham, Microsoft decides for you. Could be their latest update weighted
the records so those emails now look like spam. There are so many
better alternatives to Microsoft's solutions for spam filtering that
I've never had the slightest itch to move from OL2002.
