Emails and IM stalling when typing

I have been using Outlook and the IM for years now. All of sudden it now
stalls when I am entering text. I will let me type a bit.... then stops. I
use an HP laptop, and have also read previous post about turning off spell
checker. (It just now did same while typing this post.)

if it does it in other apps, it might not be outlook causing it.

Which version of outlook?

This is most likely not an Outlook issue as much as it is probably related
to an operating system/performance problem. What opertating system are you
using? How much RAM?

I am currently using the 2003 Basic edition of Outlook from the Office
software that came with the laptop.

My operating system is XP 2002... Service PK 2, and my RAM is 1.24GB
