emailed a file & windows cant open it as its pps what do i do

been emailed a file,downloaded it,tried to open it ut windows couldnt advised
me to look in powerpoint but i dont know what to do,im in the powerpoint site
but dont what im suppose to do,which download is best,ive got winxp home
edition HELP
