OK, please don't take what I'm going to say wrong. I am *not* saying
this to be hurtful. Have a knowledgeable friend (someone who is *really*
knowledgeable and not someone who just says they are) OR a computer
professional come over and help you. You need someone who can look at
the machine and walk you through what you need to know.

There is no reason to feel bad about this because we all have our areas
of expertise. Do yourself a favor and have someone sit with you and show
you how to do things. You'll be happier and more productive on your
computer.

how safe is that site..it just says, give email address and
password.....liz..you could go to a store that sells computers and get the
sales people to show you some things on the stores computers..best
buy-compusa,circuit city..and there are others...

The company offering this service has a good reputation, and has not
breached its own privacy policy as far as I am aware.

Your own policy of 'never updating anything' renders your computer open to
all and every threat out there. The only way that your computer could be
safe is not to connect to the internet.

Your advice also falls way short of the mark. The large computer stores are
definitely not the place to go, and one is lucky to find anybody in that
kind of store who is anything close to useful unless a purchase is being
made. One may on occasion get lucky.

The 'facts' that you put out are misleading at best, and your sole purpose
seems to revolve around discrediting anybody who openly supports Microsoft
or the company products in these newsgroups.

Nobody here knows everything, but you seem blissfully less aware than most
if not all others who frequent these newsgroups. You are doing way less of a
service than the people you claim have no value.
