Hello

Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8132) SP2
Windows XP Pro SP2
CA Security Centre (v3.2.1.18)
Toshiba Satellite M30 laptop

I recently had to reinstall operating system and Microsoft office 2003 due
to virus issues. I have also installed all current upgrades and fixes.

Since doing so, email recipients cannot open pdf attachments when I send
them from my Outlook 2003 from my laptop. I send in HTML using word as the
editor.

If I send them from another PC using Outlook, they can open the pdf
attachment.

I have tried changing / configuring outlook, firewall, security settings to
no avail.

Can someone help out with any ideas?

cheers

When you say you changed security settings, did you disable scanning of
incoming and outgoing e-mail? You don't need it, and it can cause problems.

I noticed the same problem.

I did refine the problem.
When using outlook 2003 to send a pdf the receiver has to save it before
opening.
When using OWA for sending, the problem doesn't exist.

Another nice thing is that when using outlook 2003, the attachment is larger
than using OWA when compare them in the receiving mailbox.
But when saving to disk they are identical again.

What the #$&^& happens in outlook 2003???

What do you mean "can't open"? Do they get error messages? What happens
when they try to open the attachments? DO they even see the atachments?

Yes, I disabled CA Security for scanning emails in & out. I even disabled my
firewall and sent a test email. It didn't make any difference.

Hi Brian

I have had the recipient test opening the files by either opening directly
from the email and from the saved attachment.

They receive an error message stating that the file cannot open or the file
is corrupt.

the pdf reader starts but as the file object is loaded the error message
window appears.

What happens if you do not use Word as the mail editor and send your message
in Plain Text format? I'm not advocating you do this permanently, just
while testing to eliminate as many variables as possible. Also, if you have
an antivirus program scanning mail, uninstall it and reinstall it without
the mail scanning feature. FInally, enable diagnostic logging and see if
the transactions between Outlook and your mail server are error-free.
