Email Question

Sometimes while working with other programs I get a semi-transparent alert
indicating that an email message is coming in even though Outlook 2007 is
closed. I have seen this several times on both my notebook and desktop
computers.

Is there a way to set Outlook 2007 so that it only downloads email when I
first open Outlook or when I manually click the send/receive button on the
button bar?

If you are receiving mail OL is not closed.
It may be running minimised, if so there will be an icon in the system tray.
Or OL may not have closed properly, in which case the outlook.exe process
will be shown under running processes in task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del). If
this is the case, typically caused by OL plugins
