Email notifier

Hi
I'm trying out a trial version of DynAdvance Notifier
(http://www.dynadvance.com/) which does what the GMail notifier does
but includes also web-based email accounts such as Yahoo or Hotmail.

So far it looks very good but it's not freeware any more.

Is there anything that does the same for FREE?

TIA
Paul

Hi guys
Thanks to Pete and j.... for your replies.
I'm checking out eprompter now and it looks very good.
However, one of my email accounts which I read through OE6 is giving
eprompter a problem.
It doesn't seem to be able to retrieve email from this account.
Does anybody know if, and how, this can be overcome?

TIA
Paul

If the account uses SSL rather than POP3, that's probably the reason.
Assuming it's an account available for general public use like Gmail,
you may find an answer in ePrompter forums:

http://forum.eprompter.com/

However, if it's a work account with your employer, for instance,
ePrompter probably won't work, since it doesn't natively do SSL. You
could use a "wrapper" program like Stunnel, but that's a bit involved
for my tastes.

Hi Ron
Thanks for your reply.
Problem solved!. Just a minor error (forgot to create new account type
as POP3----was using Yahoo instead).
BTW I'm very impressed with ePrompter and I'm surprised I only got to
hear about it today.
Thanks to everybody for helping me on this one

Glad to hear you worked it out.

As for ePrompter, I've been using it for years, and while it
occasionally has problems with one webmail service or another from
time to time, it's usually a temporary thing until the development
team comes up with a fix or a forum member suggests a workaround.

While ePrompter is primarily a notifier program, it's also capable of
being a mini email client at those times you just want to dash off a
short text reply. I don't know why it doesn't get more mention other
than the fact it's been around for a long time.
