In my feeble attempts to set my Windows 'Live' account as my default email
and/or Windows 'Mail' I continually receive the following error message. I
havn't a clue as to what POPs or SMTP settings I have. I have also seen a
message stating web based email is no longer supported by whatever?.
Please someone help me with clear direction? It's funny how I had to enter
my 'Live' password to gain access to and post this question here. And yes I
have seen dozens of queries referring to either mail services but all that
has become a turkey shoot. Frankly I prefer 'Live' as I've had an (.)msn.com
address for years. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 2006 on a Gateway
MT6821. If any of that makes a dif.

Please?

The host 'smtp' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.

The host 'pop3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the

'smtp' and 'pop3' are not valid server names. You need to ask your email
provider (who is probably also your internet provider) for their
instructions
for setting up to use their email servers. These instructions should be
somewhere on their web site. Or, you could wait and see if anyone here
already knows where to find them.

open windows mail. then click on tools. it opens the internet accounts. under
mail if it doesn't show your internet provider under Pop.3 then click the add
button. once the box opens click next..
type in your display name.. your name you use for your internet
provider..(example, John Doe) then click next.. type in your user
(e-mail address removed)(example, John (e-mail address removed)) click next.. Type POP3.your
internet provider(examaple: POP3.aol.com)--Make Sure You CAPTILZE POP3 And
Capt. SMTP.
in next box type in SMTP.internet provider(example:aol.com)
Check the box outgoing server requires authentication as most internet
providers require this so your mail won't be listed as spam when sent to whom
ever you are e-mailing.
click next, type in your user name and password and check box to remember
your password.. click next and you should have successfully set up your
e-mail account..

That's exactly where I see the error, windows mail no longer supports web
based email.'
I appreciate your help cel81.

Glad to have helped.
