Email Info Request

Does anyone know anything about Incredmail and if it works with Windows XP?
For about a year now I've been trying to get the full use of my Outlook
Express program without success. I've done everything anyone as been able to
suggest as well as follow all recommendation in the database pages. So many
people replied to my request for help in the Outlook Express newsgroup that
most eventually gave up. There was on gentelman who stayed with me for months
with us trying everything as well as uninstalling the program and
reinstalling it. Eventually I was able to get it to the point where it would
send messages but I can not receive my messages. I didn't have time to keep
devoting to that problem and still, once in a while, work on it. I'm now
tired of fighting with it. Microsoft says it's a problem with my provider and
my provider says it's a problem with the program. I give up. I need to have
an email program that will be able to do both receive and send my messages so
I have a way to get them off of the space my provider allows me.
If anyone knows if this Incredmail is a good program or knows of a good
email program please let me know. I am a big user of stationery so I would
want that capability, if possible.
Thanks. Linda

Thank you so much for your help. This is why I don't download or try anything
without checking with someone at one of these newsgroups. I so appreciate you
people who donate your time and knowledge. How wonderful you all are.
Thanks again.

I see that Gordon suggested Thunderbird. That might be a good solution
for you.

Regarding, Incredimail, I'd stay away from it because most people don't
like receiving e-mails with excessive graphics. Furthermore, a number of
people have had lots of problems with it.

Before you try Thunderbird, you might want to have a look at:

http://support.cox.com/sdccommon/asp/contentredirect.asp
"How to: Edit an Email Account in Outlook Express 6" (in case Cox is
still your ISP and e-mail service provider)

If you can send but not receive, it sounds like it's just a
configuration error. If you're still having problems, you should post
back *all* of your settings under all of those tabs. And you might want
to post to microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
instead (or even cross-post if you suspect this is somehow a Windows XP
issue).

But if you would rather just install Thunderbird and use it as your
primary e-mail client, that should work. Just be sure you configure it
properly.

Thanks Daave:
I don't know how to postback *all* of my settings and I would post to the
Outlook Express newsgroup but I'm sure the people who are watching that and
helping with those request feel that they've spent enough time trying to
solve my problem which just can't be solved. As I stated, I did spend as much
time on it as possible and worked almost non-stop for about 3 weeks when my
Outlook first became corrupt. I don't think I have a right to keep asking for
their help. It's because I've decided to give up on Outlook Express and see
if there is another email program that is available.
Is the program that Gordon suggested hard to install and configure? The only
reason I'm concerned is because of your warning to make sure I do so
correctly.
Another thing; the link you provided to me gives me the 'page not found'
message. Could you send it to me again to make sure it's correct?
Thanks again.

Just jot down the settings you see in all the tabs; there aren't too
many.

For visuals, go to http://shurl.org/Sofxr and then click on the bottom
link that says "How to: Edit an Email Account in Outlook Express 6."

You will see that while running Outlook Express, you need to select:

Tools>Accounts>(choose the account you are configuring)>Properties.

You will see five tabs:

General
Servers
Connection
Security
Advanced

Just jot down all the settings in all five tabs. For example, on the
Servers tab, fill in these blanks:

My incoming mail server is a __________________ .

Incoming mail (POP3): ______________________ .

Outgoing mail (POP3): ______________________ .

etc.

It's just as easy as Outlook Express. That's why I figured you might
want to try Outlook Express one more time, because either way, you'll
need to enter your settings.

Do you still use Cox? Are you able to use their Web interface? There are
many people who prefer just to use the Web to get their e-mail rather
than use a dedicated e-mail client. Personally, I prefer using an e-mail
client, but there's nothing horribly wrong with using a Web interface if
this is what you would prefer.

So you came here, to a group that has NOTHING to do with email
problems, so that you can work on a new group of folks, right?

Since the help from the newsgroup specializing in Outlook Express had
exhausted all suggestions to get my OE up an running again properly I gave up
bothering them and taking up their precious time. The did try extremely hard
to solve my problem and I do appreciate all of their efforts. When learning
that there are other email programs I thought I would see if anyone knew if
Incredmail was a good program or not. I now know that it isn't. I don't
download and install anything without first getting the opinion form one of
these newsgroups beforehand. I know I can count on getting accurate
information from one of these sources. I really don't think there is any hope
for getting my OE to work properly again. Obviously there is something that
was downloaded with that update (that I uninstalled) that is still affecting
the performance of some programs on my system. I appreciate the encouragment.

So blow off both the mail program AND your ISP by using a web-based facility
like Gmail (Google mail).

Who is your ISP? That may provide another clue.

Thunderbird is no more difficult to install or configure than Outlook
Express.
If you wish to test it out before deciding, make sure to check "leave
messages on the server" in the Server Settings for your e-mail account
when setting it up. Of course, if you don't have the correct incoming
and outgoing server settings from your ISP, you'll have a problem <g>.

If you do run into problems or questions about Thunderbird, check out
the support forums at www.mozillazine.org or the
mozilla.support.thunderbird newsgroup on the news.mozilla.org server.

I very much doubt it, Linda. Tens of millions of users have all critical
updates installed and are NOT having the problems you are.

Best of luck.

Cox cable is my provider. I've written to them and have called their tech
support including their step 2 tech support only to be told that it's a
Microsoft problem. After going through weeks of help from the Outlook Express
newsgroup, much earlier this year, and trying every possible suggestion
given, the last suggestion was to contact Cox cable because the problem had
to be a provider problem. That's when I started calling Cox's technical
support to get no where other then being told it's a Microsoft problem. I
don't like using the webmail provided by Cox because there is no way to use
stationery nor even change the fonts when writing email. OE was exciting to
use and I do spend a lot of time on email. I'm in sales and it gets boring to
just use the webmail day after day. I had so much enjoyed OE and do miss it.
I was extremely upset at the lose of the use of it for my incoming mail. My
provider's webmail page just doesn't do it for me. My relatives and friends
send me messages daily using stationery and it deosn't even show up on their
webpage. I'm thrilled that I can use OE to compose and send my messages
because I do use stationery to do that. I just can't forward messages from
there without having to manually put every address in the 'to' box and easily
do anything else that OE made it so easy to do not to mention time saving.
That's the reason I don't care for the webmail page although I have had no
choice but to receive my mail there for some time now. All of my setting are
correct, which have been checked and recheked, by everyone who has tried to
help me. I've followed all of the instructions on the data base pages
recommended to me, etc.. There is just one clitch somewhere that has caused
this problem. If there was a way to copy and paste the screeshot of the error
message I get when I try to send from OE I would include it in a post. I've
tried to do that but it doesn't work. I even tried to manually include the
information that Daave requested from each tab in OE but by the time I type
all of that manually it gets lost when I try to send the post. I get a
message saying that this page is unavailable. I've done that twice already
and then gave up and went to work. I guess I'll have to pay someone to come
in and wipe out my system and restore everything for me that can be saved. I
appreciate all of the help from here. Thanks to all.

That's because you are using microsoft.com's Web interface to post and
read Usenet messages. It's clunky, annoying, and frustrating--as you can
surely agree.

Instead, you would have much better results using a news client for
these newsgroups. Here are easy instructions to configure Outlook
Express to access the Microsoft news server:
