email in outbox that cannot be deleted and will not send

I have accidentally pressed send on an extremely large
email. Now when I attempt to send/receive, no other emails
can be sent. The large email cannot be deleted from the
Outbox. The large email, if I attempt to open it in the
Outbox, gives me an error message "Outlook has already
begun transmitting this message" (when in fact Outlook has
been closed and reopened many time and send/receive been
activated several times and the email remains in the
Outbox.)

Any suggestions?

Create a new .pst file and make it the default. Close and reopen Outlook.
Delete the offending file from your non-default outbox.

What version of Outlook? If OL2003, click on file | work offline. Then
close/open Outlook - you may be able to delete the item then....then go back
to the file menu and disable work offline.

moving the message to another folder doesn't always work; i my case I had to retrieve the message, not to delete it (it was stuck in the Outbox due to a server problem); I was able to retrieve it by copying the whole Outbox to another folder

Deleting emails from Outbox

Dear All...

I had the same issue (email with large attachment stuck in Outbox - but not blocking other emails). I am using Outlook 2007. The solution was:
1. In File menu - Choose Work Offline.
2. Close Outlook.
3. Re-open Outlook (It stays in Offline mode).
4. Go to the Outbox and delete the file.
5. Switch back Online.

This should work.

Thank you!

Thanks Robby! I found this post via google search on the problem and this fixed it in two ticks, while all else had failed! Thank you very much. Don't you just love it when a nagging problem is solved in just a few clicks?

if nothing else works..try this!

Nothing worked for me but following steps (through self experiementation!)1. Open outlook 2007 in safe mode (start->run outlook /safe)

2. Select File-> work offline

3. Go to outbox

4. Double click on stuck mail. It should now open in draft state.

5. Delete all contents, subject, recipients and save back & close the mail

6. now try deleting the empty mail. You should get rid of it!

It worked for me.

Cheers,
Alok
