email getting automatically deleted

using imap with email server so that email can be dumped to desktop and
laptop. using laptop with outlook express. on laptop when email comes in,
it gets a slash through it (deleted) and when exiting outlook the emails are
purged. email can be read but can't be kept on laptop unless each is
selected and undeleted

From the tools menu select "Options" then go to "Maintenance" tab. You
will find all the options there!!!

like the options to "Purge deleted messages when leaving IMAP folders"

Reads like you may have set it up as POP3 mail in OE.

been there...when messages come in they are automatically marked for
deletion...that's what I'm trying to change

nope, went through the whole process again...it is set up as an iMap account
