I keep getting an email from Smeyers. This entity is clearly spam or a virus.
The subject line usually says "Hi" or "re:" or "thanks" or something like
that. I never open the email. I just keep hitting the spam button. But now I
keep getting more and more of them. I used to have an automatic spam filter
but I got rid of it because I was losing vital email. Is there any way I can
block this specific email address. And what is likely to happen if I open it?

Set email rules on the most common yet signifying aspects of the email.

You don't say what e-mail client you are using, so it is impossible to give
you specific instructions as to how to block this particular sender. The
option to block a particular sender will probably be listed in "Tools", or
something to that effect. As to what will happen if you open the mail,
first, you will have acknowledged receipt of the mail, confirming that yours
is a legitimate address, then most likely, the address will be sold to other
spammers and you will be bombarded with more spam.

Never give your e-address to anyone you don't know. If you want to use
services that require an e-address, either setup a separate account with
your ISP, or use HotMail, or something like that, where the account is
disposable.
