email disconnects

As soon as I open windows mail it connects then disconnects immediately
without loading messages. If I hit send/recieve the progress bar shows
"authorizing, connecting, disconnectind, not connected" in rapid sequence and
no messages are downloaded.
I use Trend Microsystems Antivirus plus Antispywear / Windows Vista 64 bit
and they are supposed to be compatible.

Supposed to be compatible, but not compatible enough with Windows Mail.
A number of antivirus products cause assorted problems in Windows Mail
if they have email or newsgroups scanning enabled, although usually rather
slowly. A few, including McAfee and Norton, do this even if you don't tell
them to enable email and newsgroup scanning; again , usually rather slowly.
I
suspect that this also applies to most antispyware and antispam products
with
email or newsgroups scanning enabled, or unable to fully switch it off.

Does it help to disable the antispam feature of the Trend program, or even
disable the whole Trend program?
