Outlook 2003
I just opened some old email files in the outlook application. Now,
whenever I launch Outlook, I notice at the bottom right corner it says
sending 1 of 5 message and then outlook crashes. It continues to do this
every time I launch outlook.

Thanks for any help.

Can you run Outlook in Safe mode? Start=>run->outlook.exe /safe

Milly,

When I tried that, it states Windows cannot find.

I've found out it is crashing when it tries to send 15 messages that don't
exist. If I run outlook without doing a send/receive, it will not crash. As
soon as I hit the send/receive button, it tries to send the 15 messages and
crashes. All this started when I moved some old email files from another
computer into a new folder I set up on my outlook. I've since
removed(deleted) this new folder and its files, but it still is attempting to
send these 15 messages that don't exist.

Thank you

To run the command, you must have a space after outlook.exe and before the
/.

If you wish to delete the messages, you will need to use a tool to do this.
Ensure Outlook is in offline mode as well to avoid the annoying crashes.

Milly,

I tried the run command and received the following:
"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. The command line arugment is not
valid. Verify the switch you are using."

Should I just go ahead and try the delete tool?

Thank you

That is a valid switch. Please show in a response exactly the way you typed
it.

It should display as "outlook.exe /safe" without the quotes. There is a
space after .exe and before the forward slash. That is the only space. There
is no space after the forward slash.

Milly,

It appears I was only able to delete 1 of the 15 messages in there. All the
messages begin with "Not read:"

I get the following message when I try to delete others:
IMsgStore::AbortSubmit() returned MAPI_E_UNABLE_TO_ABORT

If I try to proceed past that and continue on with the process I get:
IMAPIFolder::DeleteMessages() returned MAPI_W-PARTIAL_COMPLETION

The left pane of the window still shows 14 messages beginning with "Not
read:".

Your continued help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Problem Resolved.
What I did was show the Send/Receive Progress Window. Then, within the
couple of seconds that I had before Outlook would crash and close, I
hurriedly clicked the Cancel Task button at the bottom of the Send/Receive
progress window. To my amazement, all the emails I had pending on my ISP
server began to pour in. Then, I was able to use the Outlook Spy tool to go
in and successfully delete the 14 emails with read receipt that were causing
the problem in the first place.
