email annoyance

I should know this but my minds frozen.

In Excel2000, my spreadsheet has many cells with email addresses, many
without. When I click on a cell, OE6 starts without my prompting. I dont
want, nor did I specify that that should happen. Also, the email addresses
(when hovering) are not the same as those showing in the cell, but are
several cells away. When I right click the cell with that address, I can
remove the hyperlink OK, but when I select a range of cells to remove all
those hyperlinks (some cells without hyperlinks), the resulting window asks
me to Insert Hyperlink. Removing each cells link by right clicking it would
be a pain.

No doubt, Ive missed something, but I dont know what it is. I cant find
anything in Help. Can I turn all this hyperlink stuff off?
