Email address for links

J

Jim S

I have a domain address which points to my server address.
On my account settings I have my address listed as my domain and just in
case I also have my domain address in the reply-to box.
If I send emails from Outlook (2010) all is well and the recipient sees the
domain address. However if I send a link from a browser, it appears to come
from my server address.
Can I change this?

Huh? What's a domain address? What's a server address?

Your domain is let's say 'example.com.'

So you're saying you have your address listed as example.com?

Use (e-mail address removed) , (e-mail address removed), etc - I for one have no
idea what you mean by 'domain address' and 'server address'.

I'll start again.
Let us say my 'server' address is (e-mail address removed).
This is the address I have to use to send/receive mail to and has all my
settings like pop3.provider.com and smtp.provider.com and where I have to
use my password.

I also pay for a domain name i.e. www.jimscott.co.uk . I want all my emails
to be sent to it and when I post, the recipient sees that the mail has come
from jimscott.co.uk. In order for this to happen I have to tell
jimscott.co.uk to forward all emails it receives to (e-mail address removed)
In order for this to happen with Outlook , I enter my email address as
...... @jimscott. co. uk (without the spaces)

As I said, when I use Outlook directly that works a treat. My emails appear
to come from jimscott.co.uk and replies are directed there.

However when I send a link from a browser it appears at the recipients end
as having come from (e-mail address removed)

That is not a "server address", that is an "e-mail address". A server
address might look like this: 'reki.aosake.net'.
I also pay for a domain name i.e. www.jimscott.co.uk .

That is not a "domain name", that is a "Uniform Resource Locator" ("URL"). A
domain name would look like this: 'aosake.net'.

Apparently your browser is configured to use <{%Username%}@provider.com>
instead of <{%UserName%}@jimscott.co.uk>. Not sure where that setting is,
since you aren't telling us which browser you use.

Sorry about the terminology, but I seem to have got the point home.
My default browser id Firefox, but it seems to happen in IE and Opera too.

When you send a link from a browser, is it opening outlook or using
webmail?

I am coming to the conclusion that the problem lies in the fact that my
provider uses Gmail to host the email.
Things appear to have changed recently and using the new system I can enter
my @jimscot address in the google mail and set it as default.
Now if I mail from Outlook the mail arrives at the other en marked "sent
from (e-mail address removed) on behalf of me@jimscott co uk (dots removed)"
Replying to this comes to the @jimscott address

This works exactly the same if I use a proper gmail webmail account.

It's not what I want, it's not what used to happen, but I guess it's the
best I can hope for.

PS I just set up Live mail and that functioned without all the "on behalf
of" mullarky.

If outlook getting the jumscott mail from gmail (with gmail picking up
the jimscott mail from the jimscott server) the behavior is expected.
Outlook only knows the account that downloaded the message, not the
account that it really belongs to.

If jimscott is hosted on google servers, it might be Outlook - install
SP1 and see if it works as expected. Or it could be a configuration
issue somewhere...

That solution is working fine.
For Google Mail based systems like Virginmedia and Sky in the UK and Google
mail anywhere. If you have another address add it to the Google accounts,
make it default and orf you jolly well go.
