Email address changes don't really stick

I've changed a friends email address very carefully twice knowing that
maintaining changes has been difficult. I "saved and closed" and I clicked
"apply" but when I send an email, it returns the email as unsent and keeps
showing the old address.

When I look up the individual in my contacts list the address shows up
correctly in the two different places that I maintain the name and email
address but keeps sending to the wrong address. I find the "Contacts"
portion of Outlook difficult to work with.

Which version? It's either stored in the *.NK2 (ol2002/03) or the *.nick
(older versions) file - you can delete it from the *.NK2 but need to delete
the *.nick file.
